Historic Highlights
- 1957 - A Group of 10 people decided on to apply
for a charger to start the Norfolk Municipal
Employees Federal Credit Union. Each
member invested one $5.00 share. New
members & all withdrawals had to be approved
by the Board of Directors.
- 1957 - The Bureau of Federal Credit Unions granted
the charter.
- 1957 - Gordon B. Taylor, became the First Credit
Union President.
- 1969 - Mrs. Nell Uzzle, became the First full-time
employee.
- 1972 - Helen Gaitehr, became First Full Time
Manager.
- 1992 - Opened second branch at Sewels Point.
- 2005 - Joined the Credit Union Service Center
Network.
- 2006 - Offered Free Online Banking
- 2007 - Celebrated 50 years of Member Service

The Norfolk Municipal Employees Federal Credit Union of Norfolk was chartered in 1957 and
has operated continuously in the City of Norfolk since its inception. The credit union's primary
mission has been to serve the financial needs of employees of the City of Norfolk, and this
mission continues to be the primary driving force behind the credit union today. The credit union
has built a reputation of conservative soundness that has served it well.
